Ossesso, Nicola Ghilardelli

LATERA the art farm

Nicola Ghilardelli’s work for Latera is located beneath the arch of the entrance bridge to the village’s central area, a symbolic place of passage and threshold.

Nicola Ghirardelli's work for Latera is located beneath the arch of the entrance bridge to the central part of the village, a symbolic place of passage and threshold. The sculpture recalls the ouroboros, the serpent devouring its own tail — an ancient archetype of eternal return and renewal found in cultures worldwide. The figure draws inspiration from shepherds' carved staffs preserved in the Anthropological Museum of Latera: simple, everyday objects that safeguard the memory of peasant tradition.

Through the fusion of metal, the artist transforms that heritage into a universal image, merging local and global, past and present. The work invites those entering the village to recognize the profound unity between humankind, nature, and history, restoring to the territory its ritual and collective strength.
