There are many fanciful characters that have been wandering for centuries around the village, but only in collective imagination, although today with a change in the generation, they are losing consistency.
Among the most negative figures undoubtedly are the Witch of Canale and La Marroca. The former is said to be a witch settled in the vicinity of the fountain of Canale because often a more or less large cloud lurks in the direction of the fountain, although this is probably due to the conformation of the hill. The latter, on the other hand, has no well-defined explanation and would seem to be a witch as well, or at any rate an ugly and evil woman.
The Little Man of Ciancarella, on the other hand, is a kind of spirit that roams the forest of the same name near the village.
The Dog of San Rocco, instead, is said to be a kind of ghostly little dog that roams around the little church of the same name in the evening.
Also worth mentioning is a fictional animal known as Logna, which the Laterans often use in their discussions as a metaphor for something that does not exist: "andar per logne" means to waste time.
Also worth mentioning are the animals invented by elementary school children in the 1970s, such as Trippanze and Patollosaurus.
