Mirko Loste's work, "The Forgotten Queen", arose from the desire to bring to light one of Latera's most overlooked stories.
In the 1970s, a group of women took to the streets in place of their husbands, protecting them from the risk of arrest and the loss of work. It was a simple yet extraordinary gesture, transforming the silence of the home into a public voice, leaving its mark on the community even without being remembered with the strength it deserved.
Today, the artist restores visibility to those protagonists through the image of a young smiling woman, proud, wearing a paper crown — fragile, yet capable of immortalizing the courage of those who wore it symbolically.
The work reminds us that one need not be born a queen to leave a mark in history: a single act of sacrifice and dignity can become a collective symbol against the oblivion of time.
